Newsletter No. 3 - April 2001
Only five more months until entries close! I have been very pleased with the twenty six entries received to date. Well done to all of you. I'm sure we'll get to our target of fifty cars. One of the latest registrations is the only known Austin A30 2 door Coupe in the Southern Hemisphere. This is a very unique vehicle and one to watch out for in Echuca. We have also received a registration from our sister club in New Zealand - this event is certainly gaining an "international flavour". Where are all you Van and Countryman owners? We need you!
In respect to the availability for accommodation , I have been advised that the Pevensy Motel is now fully booked out by our rally entrants. The other two motels on our preferred list are still taking bookings:
Settlement Motor Inn 405 High Street Echuca (03) 5482 4777
Prop – Terry and Kim Werner; 34 suites price range $80-85 per night ($10 extra per person)
Paddlewheel Motel 385 High Street Echuca (03) 5482 3822
Prop – John and Toni Beck; 32 Suites some with spa’s $85-$117 ($10 extra per person)
(Preference is for booking four nights but may consider three nights)
We also now have a fourth motel - Georgian Motor Lodge 373-375 High Street Echuca (03) 5480 9313. Rates $85-95 per night. This is a new motel and is located within "staggering" distance of the other three motels.
A reminder to all participants to book their accommodation as soon as possible. We have been informed that accommodation will become scarce during this long weekend.
Our sub committee for Echuca 2001 has had a slight change in its composition. Bob Talbot has handed the responsibility for Publicity and Promotions to Don Jones. Many thanks to Bob T. for all his work to date. (Don't worry he's still with us!)

Good news on the merchandising scene. We have available a special 50th Anniversary baseball style cap. It is green and gold and has the Echuca 2001 logo embroidered on the front. The cost is only $18.00. Please indicate on the entry form how many you require. Delivery will be at the rally.
Some of our entrants have enquired as to what other activities are available in Echuca. I have contacted the Echuca Tourism Authority and they informed me that they have now available an "Echuca Pass". This pass gets you into Sharps Magic Movie House; the National Holden Museum; World in Wax; Murray River Aquarium plus a one hour cruise on the Pride of the Murray. Prices are Adult (RACV member $35 / $37 non member; child (4-14) - available from the Tourist Bureau.
A reminder of our itinerary:
Activities planned are mindful of the fact that a lot of you have travelled great distances to get to Echuca. Hence we have minimized travel during the event itself. Our aim was to make it an enjoyable and relaxing four days.
