Installation of Water Pump

The following describes the installation of the Davies Craig EWP water pump on my Austin Seven 'Comet'.

The 90 degree flange supplied with the kit was used on the inlet side of the pump. This was modified as shown below to allow the inlet and outlet connectors to be in the same plane. An extra 6 holes were drilled in the 90 degree flange to allow this to be possible.

The extra 6 holes in the flange can be seen in the photograph above

Right angle sections were cut from 32mm radiator hoses purchased at the local spare parts shop and fitted as shown below.

Two short 32mm right angle lengths of hose were cut out of a standard hose

A small mounting tag was made from from a piece of flat bar as shown below. This was mounted to one of the two mounting 'ears' supplied with the pump.

A small bracket was manufactured

The bracket was attached to the distributor fastening bolt as shown below. This bracket in addition to the support from the short sections of radiator hose provided a very secure mounting for the pump.

The pump was connected via a switch under the dash to 6 volts. The wiring harness provided was modified and the fuse (supplied with pump) inserted inline. The pump draws less then 2 amps under load conditions. Davies Craig offer two other methods of connecting the pump, these are optional and most likely would not suit the Austin Seven owner.
