Hi Harry. If you're not sure of the year of your chassis, this may help: if the side rail extends 6" past the u-bolt notch and it doesn't have an extension rivetted or bolted (the latter are parallel to each other, not on same angle as side-rail) it's a '27. If the side-rails extend only 1" past notch, it's '28 or later. Both these have the number stamped on LH rail next to rivet for nose-piece casting. '29 is same as '28 except the turned-up flange on top-hat section extends a few inches forward of the front cross-member, not ending behind it. For some reason many '29 chassis out in Oz (and maybe elsewhere?)did not have a number stamped at all. Look where Steve's suggested for no. but also on driver's side. I recall two '28 chassis less than a hundred apart where one was there for some reason. Re painted number, was on all Seven chassis although not sure about all Rubies. Good luck & cheers - Bill
