One thing to remember about A7 engines, every stud in the engine finishes up in water! You have already experienced the manifold stud frustrations. The only way to overcome these tests, is to do the lot, not just half!
One thing I do, when assembling an engine is to make sure the threads are in perfect condition. If they are suspect, fit a new thread!
The next trick, every time I fit a stud, is to coat the thread in Devcon putty. This not only seals the thread, but locks the stud in, so it stays put next time you undo the nut! Make sure both the male & female parts of the thread are spotlessly clean, or the Devcon is wasted!
I always make my own stainless steel studs, some stuffing around, but the ultimate in a long life!
Doing this also allows a selection of different threads to be used in the block! Hence I can use Thread Inserts, instead of Helicoils. A personal choice of new thread!
Good luck Greg
