Ron check that you have flat surfaces on block and head, also studs can pull little craters up on the block as the head is pulled down on a previous occasion, these may not be spotted on studs that have not been removed, but may stop the head from pulling down on the head gasket. also have a good look for cracks on the head and inside the bores, sometimes the bore can rust through, it may be only a small pinhole, hard to spot. One favourite place for the block to crack is from the middle stud across to the bore on each side good luck Ian
