As Greg mentioned previously. Are you absolutely sure the water is not getting out via the manifold studs?
Also, never, but never, use a gasket on the two-stud type, late water outlet - unless it is a solid copper one. This often blows under combustion pressure and is a really silly design mistake. This is simply because it is impossible to tighten to the same torque as the other head studs if a compressible water gasket is used.
