HELP!

Is anyone out there knowledgeable on the late distributor (Lucas DK4A) used on the Seven?

I am in the process of rebuilding one rather then switching to a modern conversion like most are doing here. I am after the following information....

- why are some plates (the plate the bob weights are mounted on) marked 3 degrees and some 8 degrees? Are they off different models?? The max advance is set by the diameter of the 2 holes that limit the bob weight travel - 1/4" seems to measure about 8 degrees. Most of mine are total "hammered" out over time and now very large. The confusing thing is some plates have been opened out to about 3/8" giving up to 17 degrees max advance???

- are both bob weight springs the same on these distributors? (more modern distributors have one light and one heavy spring, etc) - all the ones I have taken apart seem to have matching springs.

- does anyone know of an advance curve that is considered reasonable for a mildly tuned engine?

ANY comments would be appreciated...

I might add a section on this web site re this rebuild, as I seem to be having a lot of trouble getting logical information on this job. The distributor is for my Comet 65 and I would like to keep the car as original as possible. I have fitted new bushes in the distributor body and removed the "play" on the advance mechanism. I just need this last bit of information to complete the task! And yes I know what ever I do will NOT really make any great difference to the running of the Seven - but one lives in hope...

Thanks

Bruce
