Are you using absolutely fresh petrol? Modern petrol is **** when it comes to A7's, it goes off in a matter of weeks. However, they normally run once started, so I don't really think it's that. It is possible for the cam timing to be wrong even if the three location rings line up - did the car run before the engine rebuild? Have you a local A7 expert?
