Bart, the camshaft gear is keyed to the camshaft so hard to make an error there. Are you sure the camshaft gear is mated correctly to the crankshaft gear - ie you haven't got it a tooth out? What are your tappets set at??

Is the timing correct???

Here is a method to check (from the good book)

1 - Rotate the engine to TDC compression on No 1 (on compression both valves are closed) 2 - Rotate the crankshaft such that the marking 1/4 on the flywheel periphery is 1 1/4" to 2" from TDC 3 - Rotate the distributor until the rotor aligns with No 1 segment and the contact breaker points are on the point of opening. 4 - without rotating the engine, mesh the distributor pinion with that on the dynamo.

Good luck

Bruce
