My own 1936 tourer has a similar seat back and my knowlege comes from this only. It seems similar to yours, with two side-mounted vertical pieces of hardwood which plug into the rear body. That is if they still existed - mine dissolved with woodworm when I touched them. This results in the seat sliding forward over bumps - very annoying and I must fix it someday. Incidentally, I found seven mice and 35 lbs of peanuts in my seat back one winter! I think I will put this picture on my site as a warning not to store food and cars together.
