Colin, A typical problem on an A7 engine that has been left standing for a considerable time, is that as you turn the engine over the valves stay open, thus no compression- no start. You can sometimes "fiddle" them back down from the tappet chest, but sometimes you have no alternative to taking the head off and clouting them back down. If you lay up a 7 for a time, its always a good idea to put a rag in the carb intake and also one in the tailpipe to stop the through flow of damp air into the engine, before i do this i also run the engine at half throttle and squirt some redex into the carb intake, then shut down and put the rags in. Have fun Ian
