Nick, Always a problem in this dreaded damp atmosphere at this time of year, this is what I do, put car on axle stands (its also worth taking the weight off the rear springs by blocking the rear cross member on the chassis just a little) run the engine to working temperature, with the throttle held open squirt some Redex into the intake trying to keep the engine running for as long as possible before it stalls (loads of smoke but that's what you want) when the engine stalls put an oily rag into the intake and also one into the tailpipe. drain the water and petrol tank, also remove petrol from the float chamber, squirt some WD40 into the chamber and everywhere else that you can in and on the carb Remove battery, give it a trickle charge now and again (Magneto cars only remove and store indoors) open widows 1/4" for ventilation use some paste wax on chrome but do not rub off. Every month turn the engine over on the handle and a squirt of Redex in each bore. Now to cover or not to cover that "IS" the 64000 Dollar question, I have always been reluctant to cover my cars since a friend covered his Black Morris 8 in an old bedspread only to find that the car had turned white in the places where the cover was in contact with the bodywork, My cars get very damp in the winter, and are now (after 25 years) beginning to deteriorate, corroding under the paint and will need work soon. Many years ago an old fellow had two Box Saloons that he stored outside for the winter lay-up he put Vaseline over everything metal and painted inside and out!, I have been tempted do try this but have not had the courage to do so. Lastly leave the petrol cap and radiator cap off. Roll on Summer, Ian
