Peter, interesting questions. I often wonder why people bother converting to 12 volts, with quartz headlight conversions 6 volt is great! If the system is working well 6 volts are adequate. Christine and I have done lots of midnight to dawn rallies on 6 volt headlights, great fun!

I had my system changed to 12 volts, only because of the electric water pump and radiator fan. The starter creates some discussion, some are of the opinion that running a 6volt on 12 is ok. Others, including I, imagine the excessive stress put on the bendex drive and the bashing it gets every time it is used. It runs too fast and is not designed to run on 12 volts.

Peter, there are people here in Brisbane who are capable of the conversions, BUT, I have found that they are not really interested! I use a guy in Coonabarabran NSW called Barry Buck, he specializes in old Auto Electrics. The best part is he doe's not make you feel like a nuisance when you want something different other than a Ford starter.

By the way your fuel tank is done, and I am to do your radiator today, Tuesday.

Regards Greg
