I was waiting for a few replies to this one! I have lubricated springs on my special and on that and my tourer, so much fluids of all sorts leak at the front, that the spring remains "damp" at all times. On the Ulster the front, (but not the back springs) is cord-bound, but I never lubricate either end of the car. I am not convinced that dry running causes any more wear than oil picking up grit. however, in the old days when I regularly helped out at my Uncle's garage, they always painted the cart springs with the oil drained from the engine. I might add that they always used to blow out the brake dust with an air line too!!! It was difficult to see out.... Remember too, one can always use Wefco leather covers on leaf springs.
