HELP! After a run yesterday (that dreadful 42 degree day here) which involved travelling over a number of “speed bumps” along a nearby beach road a loud bang was heard from the rear of the car. On closer inspection I discovered the bottom leaf on the passenger’s side of the Seven (the Comet) had fractured completely. (This is the long leaf that has the eye for diff mounting etc etc) My question is how difficult is it to remove the spring assembly with the body on the car? I have only worked on these with a bare chassis. The sports body is typical of many Australian designs and is built on two slabs of timber (something like 2”x 8” and shaped to suit) these in turn sit on top of the chassis rails. It seems to me the large bolt can not be removed as the slabs of timber cover the area of the bolt – hence you can’t remove the damm bolt! I’m almost 100% sure there are no large clearance holes in the timber to accommodate the removal of the bolts. I don’t think removing the actual spring assembly will cause a big problem as they were rebuilt and set several years ago. Can any Australian Austineers offer a view please……
Thanks
Bruce
