The question about whether 15 inch wheels are safer than larger sizes is a good one. If you use 15 inch there are Firestone, and other tyres available in various widths. These are, of course, CAR tyres. However, for all larger wheels, as far as I am aware, only motorbike tyres are available in Austin 7 sizes. This is the cause of the problem. I'm an automobile engineer, and tyres is one of my areas of responsibility. What I do know is that bike tyres are designed to project a completely different footprint onto the road, and as such are unlikely to be suitable for car use. I know we all do it, but that doesnt say its right. What I can say is this: You wont find me racing with the VSCC until either they change their mind on 15inch tyres or someone introduces a suitable CAR SECTION 400X16
