38 in a 30 limit deserves a £60 fine, I never exceed 32 now. The copper said, after giving him a lecture, that it was only just over a quid for each of his 52 years unblemished record! He did'nt quite see it that way. If he had been in the Chummy he probably would have got away with it. A couple of years ago I was coming back from Beaulieu in the Ulster and had religiously kept to the speed limits, as people do when they don't know all the cameras etc. A mile from home on a completely open bypass road, a big Mercedes 450SL caught me up and muttering something about B***** German cars (I have my own Merc now - hypocrite!) ,I proceeded to accelerate and got up to what seemed double the 40 limit, with the SL right behind of course. When pride had been satisfied I slowed down and the I don't know who was more surprised, the policeman holding the radar gun, or me! I went through at an indicated 57 mph and watched the letter box for six months! The speedo, like many whirling bobweight ones, wavers about +/- 5 it's difficult to know actual speeds.
As to the jet, it was clear and I will pass on all these good comments before the SU gets fitted.
