As Steve says, it is now difficult to get 1 1/8 SUs in the UK and most people tend to use the 1 1/4 instead. £5 will often get one at a local boot sale, where I got mine incidentally. Twin 1 1/8s were a popular tuning mod many years ago, actually. Jem Marsh's Speedex often used these
On my fairly highly tuned special, which has a Tim Myall developed engine, I use a number 6 needle and a blue spring. This engine is very quick but lacking in torque at low speed, often needing first gear on slower junctions; this may be the radical cam. It also stutters like some racing engines, but is great if driven flat out all the time.
