My thoughts are that the dark colour is simply because the Seven engine is "dirty" as has often been stated. I spent a lot of time on three cars, including my Seven, trying to achieve that nice grey exhaust pipe. Then I read a note buried in an article on fuel prices in the local RACQ mag which said that LRP fuel makes the exhaust black, the same as unleaded. At the same time all my plugs are a white/orange colour which years ago would have caused me to worry. The plug heat range doesn't make any difference to this colour.
