My experience on this subject has been similar to that previously stated. I have tried long and hard to obtain a "clean" looking plug and have tried the various NGK options from 4 through to 7 but none have had the required effect. NGK's UK Technical Dept. told me, when I discussed it with them, that the 4 range plug was only really of use for Lawn Mowers and the like but I tried them anyway with little effect (no doubt someone will now make the obvious comment). It seems that Barry is correct when he says our engines are inherently "dirty" and in any event, if the thing is running O.K. why worry. I did achieve a good plug colour once on my Box Saloon using a set of the old Champion 8 COM plugs but investigation proved a serious leak to the inlet manifold gasket such that the engine was running very, very weak. Not to be recommended. STEVE
