John. Firstly, the Phoenix crank is available in splash feed and I have one in my Ulster special. This was about £450, 5 years ago - I believe the pressure ones are £750 but I may be wrong. Bear in mind too, that you will need the correct pressurised rods too, or at least I think you will? The front part of the pressure-fed engine is of course different, but I think parts are available in a limited sense, however I am not really sure from whom at the time of writing. There have been articles in the Grey mag about this I think. As to the axle question. Are you saying the fronts are not further controllable once the rears are on hard? Bear in mind the compensation is limited in it's effect anyway. All three of my (cable operated brake) cars lock the rear o/s wheel, but I admit the 1930 car is the worst in this respect. Of the other two, one is a 1933 chassis and the cross-shaft is seized anyway with regard to the compensation. The 1936 car, a tourer, is best. This has the offset-backplate "oval" brakes and it is possible to get the tyres screeching like a modern! Ultimately, the o/s wheel locks though, just like the others. Don't believe what people say about this system with the long arms not working - it does and very effectively. I also have these long arms on the (1930) Ulster and they require much less effort than the later 1933 chassis with the short arms, where one has to stand on them for anything to happen. Hope this helps a bit!
