I set up my Trials Special initially without a pump. You will recall that when we were talking about your Gordon England in Scarborough, I said that I based a lot of the basic dimensions for the car on the Gordon England that Chris Paling used to own and therefore it is likely that the dimensions will be somewhat similar.
I found that whilst the gravity system worked O.K. on the road, for trialing, I experienced problems when the tank was low and as such, fitted an SU pump and have never had problems with it since.
I recall that you are intending trialing your car and therefore suggest a 'belt and braces' approach might be best.
