I have twice used the soft grey asbestos stuff from the Seven Workshop, but I wonder if it is better bonded on? When you rivet it the rivets almost pull through and it squidges (good word I thought) out and the ends try and straighten out too. But, it does work and the horrible asbestos covers the backplates just like the moderns have their wheels blackened. My other car from Oz has black material, very thick (~8mm) bonded to the shoes and this works too. Two of the three cars have long arms and as I said before, these do work well.
