Thank you both for your quick responses. I am afraid due to the car being a special - and seems to have been constructed around the engine ( I think it is a body off job to get the engine out!) the lowered radiator means I do not have a starting handle. Also I cannot see the fly wheel as it is buried under the transmission tunnel. I have tried to get the head off but cannot shift it - even if I wanted to I cannot get a swing at a screwdriver or similar wedge to lift it.
In fact it is not my car - it belongs to my 11 year old daughter! She fell in love with the car over 2 years ago and after much haggling gotr it down to the price where she could afford it by cashing in her Halifax shares = far more fun she said and who am I to argue? Ray Stevens ( Bristol A7 Club) who you may know, gave it the once over for her and deemed it worth the price but we knew we would have some engine problems. I have had some very limited experience of this depth of fixing before but it looks as if I will learn a lot this winter!
I will take the sump off again ( cant believe how much oil it weeps (is blue hydomlar (sp?) the answer) and investigate further - whatever is sounds like engine out & body off. I know where there is a second hand engine which might help and get my daughter mobile up some local farm tracks over the hols
Any good sources of how to re-attach the flywheel, if indeed this is what I need to do?
Thanks
Mike
