Mike, If you are going to lap the flywheel to the crank, The first and most important thing to do is to check for any "high" spots near the keyway on the crank and on the slot in the flywheel, remove these if found, also on some cranks you may notice that the flywheel boss will dig into the small end of the crank tapper, so all you do when you lap is to make the flywheel too big for the shaft, I open out the small end of the flywheel boss to the size of the end of the crank tapper, so you know that it will not dig in as you lap, Only a very, very small amount of lapping is needed, so go steady.
