I obtained my converter from Austineers though it was manufactured by someone else - I've mislaid the instruction sheet. I expect someone with more electrical smarts than me will put me right but I don't think voltage conversion is involved. The third brush is removed and the standard dynamo is allowed to run up to 12v before the solid state cutout/regulator takes over. The box seems to work well but so far I haven't used it enough to be sure that both it and the dynamo are set for a long contented life.
