It's is interesting to see all the poorly serviced axle/hub assemblies out there. The original ones on the comet are 100%. If serviced correctly over the years they don't seem to be a problem. I think the use of parallel keys is a big improvement if your making up new ends! The hub "pulling" ring shown in the above article also works great for a special. Also people must know the correct materials to use and use a welder that is knowledgeable about welding axles correctly!
