Dear Friends,
After a few years racing MGBs, I have turned my attention to a more vintage perspective and have acquired what amounts to the remains of a 1950s Special. I have most parts except for the body which was junked many years ago.
It is a boxed ruby chassis. It has boxed radius arms, and what I think is a Speedex 'independent' front suspension set-up which uses the original spring. The rear has a 'home-made' tubular shock absorber conversion.
I want to build the car into a 1930s style machine for a mixture of racing and road going. Should I keep the current suspension components or revert to standard (bowed front axle?). The whole lot is in bits and needs restoring so it doesn't matter to me which way I go.
Next question. I intend to build a rolling chassis and then get a body made straight after so that all the rest is dictated by the body rather than vice versa - does that sound sensible? Any suggestions on where to go for an aluminium body?
The engine has an aluminium head, and a large finned sump, as well as a Speedex exhaust manifold. Any suggestions on who can help/advise on a rebuild to a spec that would be reliable while providing as much horsepower a possible. As I said before, were it a B' series engine I'd be away, but this is all new to me. I appreciate your help.
Antony
