After experiencing the same problem I chose a non original approach and fitted a push-pull petrol tap out of an old Villiers lawn mower. Drilled a hole (about 0.75") in the fire wall so that I could turn the tap grip to the rear and fit an extension to the tap grip so as to be able to turn it on and off from inside the car. At the same time (about 1980)I fitted a small glass fuel bowl on the tap outlet and haven't had a blocked jet since. There is one trap with this and that is that if you leave the tank empty the cork seal in the tap shrinks and when subsequently rewetted it doesn't regain its full size and doesn't seal very well. I had a supply of corks but now wonder where to get them from - perhaps some of the motorbike chaps have a source.
