Right,

A flitch plate is traditionally a flat piece of metal sandwiched between wood, such as to reinforce old beams. (English)

It is also used in railway nomeclature.

For cars, I believe it is merely a plate joining two pieces together, thus it could be used anywhere really.

The Dunmow Flitch, for those who don't know, is a side of hog, given to couples who can prove conjugle harmony for a year and a day!

Nuff said,

Barry
