I was going to say nice to know, but maybe not! Might be tempted to strip it down and investigate. Ruby must be one of the first cars in the World with lit instruments (and self-cancelling indicators!), but you might not see the pressure rise - carry a torch in the Ulster to check the speedo etc at night....... Don't want the oil pressure to drop below 50 psi.
Interesting that the problem was perceived by Austin themselves. Was it because the oil was bad; people were bad (dropped rubbish in!); or even worse, bits of big end circulating? Nowadays, suggest it's just the crud of years. Have taken quite a few engines apart where the greatest danger to their survival has been bits of split pin. Always use Nylock nuts and Loctite and nearly always, new big end bolts (nearly always stretched)
Barry.
