Like Barry, I too look for 2 thou. end float.
To achieve this, I find the method given by Doug Woodrow in the Red Book works. This is carried out before fitting the camshaft to the engine.
Lap the camshaft gear onto the camshaft using fine grinding paste until, with the bearing fitted you achieve an end float of between 8 and 12 thou. When fitted to the engine and the nut tightened, this reduces to the 2 thou figure.
I've just done exactly this on a new engine and lapped to an end float of 10 thou. When fitted/tightened the end float reduced to the required 2 thou.
Again, like Barry, if your tolerance is radially, it might be best to find a better bearing.
