Barry he also spoke about the .001” per inch figure but stated this should be used for white metal bigend bearings etc and NOT for the bronze bushes. His view was .002 to .003 would be the best but as you guys have mentioned too much clearance might cause a problem with oil pressure. So I guess I’m really asking what thickness does the oil film take up? And at what point does too much play on these actually mater??
Maybe I should do two things:
1 - Phone an oil company and get some data on oil specs
2 - Take the bushes into work and measure the ID’s cold and at 100 degrees C…. This should prove something? I will report back on how much they close-up.
