I have two Japanese 'tin cans' a Mercedes sports roadster 'tin can' and a heap of 'solid' Austin Seven bits that should constitute a car...one day. In articles relating to Austin 7's I've seen everything from Reliant engines, Morris Minor brakes, TIG welded body frames, Morris 8 windscreens, Ruby chassis cut and 12 inches added to their length, Webber carbs, Renault pistons and rings, fibreglass mudguards and bodies ... the list goes on and all purport to be some sort of Austin. I would like to drive a beautiful little 1930's car (that in my case will never be 'original') but be able to visit family and friends on the other side of the Rimutaka Ranges without having to spend four hours in first gear at 20kmph going uphill. Is there anyone out there who can tell me how this is possible (without going in one of the tin cans) ... The idea is to enjoy the concept of the car without all of its shortcomings...and I love the style and tinyness of the little Austin. I in no way wish to offend those who believe it sacrilege to want anything other than 'pure vintage motoring'. Kind regards.
