I'm not sure if the 1750 ones were longer (or stronger), or even which ones were actually fitted, but the valve chest had to have the raised parts of the casting for the cam followers, completely milled out.
My understanding was that this was because of the lift of Tim's cam, 312 thou if I remember, but it might have been more. The 9E2 cam would have needed the same. One other penalty was having to seriously open out the combustion chambers of the Late-Ruby head and it broke though a weak spot (which I successfully plugged); the MkII Supaloy I previously used was ok as it had taller chambers.
