Everything I've heard so far seems very sensible (the sensible bits that is!). The other sounds awful.

I was thinking of buying one too. Maybe a Big Seven one is better?

My understanding is that 1D (the thread diameter) is the minimum depth of nut required for strength and actually all that is necessary. In reality, that's all you often get.

Torque is variable and there is no set amount for any one thread size. It is apparently a product of testing to destruction, then setting a certain percentage of the shear torque, typically about 70%. The shear testing is done with many samples. Furthermore, the variance is dependent on whether the threads are assembled wet (ie greased or oiled) or dry etc.

Consequently, the meagre amount of threads mentioned by Ian, if greased, will probably mean it all strips off anyway. Maybe a good thing in the circumstances!!
