I have an early 1930 (uncoupled) Chummy (in pieces), that does have the vertical support for the front of the ratchet fixed to the chassis.
I also have a 1930 steel saloon with (coupled brakes), the gear box in it (3 sp Ball change) is the one off the chummy and I have not noticed any unusual protrusion on it to take the ratchet, nor on any of the 3 speed gear boxes I have subsequently bought to replace the chummy's one.
In the spares I have a 1928 chassis, I notice the vertical bracket isn't there, does anybody know if and when this detail changed or have a photo of one of these gear boxes with the protrusion?.
