Dennis,

To add to Bill's comments, I ask the brake lining people to make the linings 1/16" wider both sides to stop them grinding the shoes when trimming the linings; it also helps to centre the shoes in the drums. Also get them to wrap the linings over the ends of the shoes and put a rivet in each end. This shouldn't be necessary, but I did have linings fall off once, and the end rivets are not on the rubbing surface. This method also creates a lead-in for the linings, which helps prevent brake squeal. These comments apply to 6" brake shoes.
