Dennis, your description of a perfect beam is of course perfectly correct, however the chassis rails in an A7 also twist. If the technology had been available I'm sure the drawings done on the billiard table would have shown a box section chassis, however Stanley compromised and drew the bottom web folded outwards. As time proved this was not one of his best decisions but an easy fix is to "box" the section with a flat plate. It is my opinion that if one boxes the chassis rails to resist torsion, drilling holes in any face takes you right back to square one. regards Ron
