Further to Ron and Dennis, apart from the theoreticals, in practice A7 chassis' bow generally upwards. Unless you flange the holes in the side of the rails to give them more strength, you won't solve the problem by cutting holes there. Anyone building a Special should concentrate on making a light-weight but well-triangulated attached body frame, thus obviating the need to box the chassis anyway. And for posterity's sake - in conversation with Stanley Edge he was most adamant that the Seven was not drawn up on the billiard table. He did the drawings on a proper board, in the Billiard room, only laid them out each night on the table for Austin's examination. He was also most indignant that people kept writing that the inspiration came from the Peugot Quadrilette - at the time he'd never even seen one. In all, he didn't do a bad job considering the times. I liken the A7 to the story of the Bumble bee. Cheers, Bill
