On closer inspection, my "original" staunchion "kink" is actually an offset, moving the upper section forward by the 13/16" width (or the bottom mounting back, depends on how you look at it!).
Since the upper screen pivot tubes are normal to the "flat" on the "D" section, but the scuttle sides are angled, something has to give. I thought that maybe the stauncheon would be twisted-in at the mounting, but the body appears to be "crushed" flat at the mounting bolts! There appears to be only one hole set in the body and frame timber.
I really would like a detailed digital picture of this area on a 1924 chummy!
