Dennis - forgot to mention that original '24 pillar was cast (and rough-cast at that) mainly because of the "lump" near top (most '25s don't have this lump). Although I don't have one handy, I'm sure the bottom was "handed" to include thicker section at front to allow for scuttle angle. You're right about instrument board ends being parallel, so timber surely has to be chamfered on outside to suit scuttle. It's top edge is certainly chamfered to suit sharp dip forward of scuttle corner. (perhaps David@ingenir can verify from his '25). Re your prev. comment on pillar having only one hole - I don't know of any car, particularly A7, that would have this, as there would be nothing to stop pillar swivelling either forwards or backwards on it's axis.
