The problem isn't the "crimp" itself, it is the small step in the dash that prevents it coming straight up. It has to be withdrawn out at the bottom to clear the "step" at the top, and this requires opening up of the folded top. While that is OK using a special tool, I would prefer to paint the dash prior to installation, but that makes folding the top back over very tricky without distortion or scratching the new paint!

Just one more piece in the jigsaw puzzle!
