G'day,
Yes, I had some success over the weekend. :-) The "trick" is in how you apply the already suggested methods.
After a couple more "Ping- oops" episodes, the following method worked quite reliably:
Grip the nipple square with good, tight fitting spanner (I ended up with an 8" shifter after I broke the open-ender). Apply a small Oxy-Acetylene neutral flame in close, between the spanner and the rim. Keep it STILL until a cherry red hot spot occurs then rock the spanner back and forth. Repeat as necessary until the nipple moves on the spoke (usually accompanied by a "click" - not to be confused with a Ping!).
At this point the nipple MAY be able to be wound off, but a soaking with WD40 or similar and a lot of backwards and forwards rotation will eventually get there.
Thanks to all those who posted suggestions.
Now, what are the threads for the 3 different spoke sizes that I encountered:
4.8mm X 32 tpi, 4.0mm X 36 tpi and 3.6mm X 40 tpi?
Thanks, DG
