Funny you should ask, Barry! I'd been awaiting the magic answer from the other gurus! The only quality I don't like about the ex Almack Special is the tight spot in the steering, which is around the centre position. There is little play at the rim and it's fine on your average road, but a long journey on twisty roads is very tiring. Removing the box is a major op. and even normal adjustment is awkward so I haven't investigated. I suspect my Dad rotated the gear when he rebuilt the box many years ago. My '33 Tourer (steel box) has lovely light steering, about an inch free play at the wheel and I have used all possible adjustments - except rotating the gear - in my 31 years ownership and 100,000 plus miles in that car... I wonder if the steel box has some merit in distorting less as you mount it on the car? I find it odd that I cannot remember this sort of problem on steering boxes 25 years ago and I have adjusted a few in my time. I suppose if the worm wears into an irregular shape one would never get it right! Afraid I haven't really answered the question! Regards, Stuart
