Hello Bill, Yes I unfortunately have heard, but never actually seen this happen , the worm it self comes off of the shaft that the steering wheel is fixed to, very disconcerting to say the least, This problem coupled with the other very frequent steering problem of the cracks in the steering arm makes you feel a bit vulnerable, to be realistic how many cars that are the age of our 7s are still being used as every day transport? I once suggested that the clubs should keep a data base on these sort of failures as a sort of early warning system (I also volunteered myself to be the registrar), but was shouted down in no uncertain manner, I have also seen two cases of the front axle breaking across the shock absorber hole, not to be recommended as a fun exercise. Regards Ian
