Traditional folklore says that whatever is stamped on the crankcase should match the numbers added together on the timing gears. I have a brand new engine (never run )bought new in 1930 to put into a boat but never used. The stamping on the crankcase is minus half a thou, and the crankshaft gear is plus one thou, the camshaft gear is STD----Any comments?
