Well, Charles this aroused my curiosity, because I would like to do the same myself. Have just been into the shed where an Ulster engine with 4 speed box is on the bench. With no top on the gearbox the 31 setup fits, but the starter body barely clears the gearbox casting. There is no clearance to fit the gearbox lid unless you carve something-I would go for the lid. Have decided I am overweight anyway, so shall fit bacon slicer starter and try to lose a stone instead! A determined gourmand might get serious about modifying a 4sp. gearbox lid. Regards, Stuart
