Yes, you can use the Ruby manifold. The updraught manifold can be used by reworking the alloy "Y" branch inlet manifold and using upside down. I have done several of the latter mods, and it works quite well. The Ruby manifold is the way to go, but they are quite scarce. You do need to convert the carb mount from horizontal to vertical bolt pattern. Yesterday I refitted an engine which I pulled out for someone else and one of the jobs was to fit a Ruby manifold and recon 1 1/8 SU. Rejetted with a GG needle and seat the motor started easily on the crankhandle on refitting to the car. The main reason for the motor removal was to convert the rear main to lip type seal. Some of the other jobs were to re work the worn out cross type crank drive. I turn off the old cross from the crank nut and make the Ruby type setup (bayonet) and braze it to the nut and the crank shaft. No more wearing out the old style. The cam shaft pulley always seem to leak oil around the felt seal, I turn up a small adaptor to allow the fitting of a 1 x 11/2 x 1/4 seal in the housing and a 1' speedi sleeve on the pulley. The round shoulder on the pulley MUST first be turned off, or the seal will bind on this rounded corner.
