Firstly, I would use 20W/50 oil in the engine. I used 10W/40 in my Ulster rep and found it leaked a bit too much. I have actually tried 5W50 in my pressurised engine without any problems, fully synthetic, it gave marginally better oil pressure than good old Duckhams Q which I generally recommend.
Secondly, as to the EP oils, they actually dissolve the gear bushings used in vintage-type axles and are not recommended; the oil seals don't matter. The other thing is that EP additives are carcinogenic and you must wear gloves, as with all oils anyway.
